IMMEDIATE NEED SERVICES
A DEATH HAS OCCURRED… NOW WHAT??
When a loved one dies, it is an emotional time for the family. Confusion occurs, and at these emotional times, everyone has different ideas. There are various ways to handle a death based on how your loved one dies.
If your loved one dies at home: If your loved one has been under a doctor’s care or in home hospice, the first call can be to the doctor or hospice nurse. If the death is sudden and unexpected, you should call 911, and they will dispatch a police officer. The police will notify the coroner who will come to your home to help determine the cause of death. Usually, the coroner will ask if you have a preferred funeral home and they will call us.
If your loved one dies in a hospital, please let the staff know you would like to have Linnemann Funeral Homes care for your loved one, and they will have release papers for you to sign. They will notify us when your loved one is ready.
It is helpful for you to call us as well. We can set a time to meet with you. We are also able to keep in contact with the hospital and make sure your loved one is taken care of right away.
If you are traveling or living in another state at the time of death, call Linnemann first. We have a strong network of funeral homes that can help us get your loved one home. We can handle all arrangements, and often times, it is much less expensive to have one funeral home manage everything.
