Juliet Purcell Atkinson, 87, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 5, 2023 at Emerald Trace in Elsmere, KY.

Juliet was born on July 1, 1935, in Huntington, West Virginia to the late McDaniel and Dorothy Purcell.  Juliet graduated from Agnes Scott College with a bachelor’s degree in arts and English.  She worked for the social security administration for quite some time before becoming a homemaker.  Later on in her life she worked for the Ashland Presbyterian Church helping with missions in the church.  Juliet loved to play bridge, tennis, and read books.  She was involved in many book clubs and was an avid Cincinnati Reds Baseball fan.She was a very gracious and charming lady.  Her outside beauty shined just as bright as her inner beauty.  She touched many lives in her time here and will be missed beyond measure by all who knew and loved her.

Preceding her in death are her parents, McDaniel and Dorothy Purcell; former husband, James D. Atkinson Jr.; son, James Halbert Atkinson and sister, Elizabeth Prejean.

She is survived by her daughter, Juliet (Terry) Phelps; grandson, James Phelps; niece, Margaret Prejean; nephews, Tom and Charles Prejean and other extended family.

A visitation will be held on Saturday June 10, 2023 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Linnemann Funeral Home 1940 Burlington Pike, Burlington, KY 41005.  Juliet will be laid to rest Monday at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Russell, KY.
