Cheryl Virginia Moore McCloskey

Born: February 9, 1944 in Vicksburg, Warren County, Mississippi

Parents: The late Willie and Virginia Emrick Moore

Cheryl received a BA degree in English and humanities and MA degree in English and education from the University of Louisville in 1966 and 1969. She also received a Rank 1 Certification in special education from Northern Kentucky University in 1986.

Cheryl taught English for 5 years at Manly Jr. High School in the Louisville Public Schools, taught 25 years at Dayton Middle School at Dayton, Kentucky, was an Intervention Specialists for 7 years in Cincinnati Public Schools., and last fall was a field observer for Georgetown College supervising graduate students in special education.

Cheryl has written two genealogical books and a third one with her sister, Carita Moore Curtis and is listed in the Library of Congress Card Catalog. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of Colonial Wars (National Treasurer 2007-Present; and Kentucky President 2004-Present) Colonial Daughters of the Seventeenth Century (Kentucky Treasurer 2006-Present) Colonial Dames XVII Century (Kentucky Chaplain 2009-2011); United States Daughters of 1812; Sons and Daughters of the Pilgrims, Descendants of the Hereditary Order of the Loyalists and Patriots of the American Revolution, Cameo Society; First Families of Kentucky, Order of First Families of Mississippi, First Families of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, First Families of Tennessee, Descendants of the founders of New Jersey.

Cheryl is a member of the Joy Sunday School Class, Compton Circle of Women’s Missionary Union (WMU) and Ft. Mitchell Baptist Church. She is also a member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, Campbell and Kentucky Retired Teachers Association; Hamilton County Retired Teachers Association; The Red Hat Society.

Cheryl was preceeded in death by her sisters Christia Lorraine Moore Summitt (1997) Crystal Gaye Moore (1948); Lillie Mosley Miles Prince Rodd (1998 brother, Christopher William Emrick Moore (1947); stepfather, Donald Kenwood Hill (1994).

She is survived by her husband: Thomas Richard McCloskey, 3 sons: Colin Thomas McCloskey of Latonia, Malcolm Moore McCloskey of Cold Spring (Megan Hupfer), Morgan Emrick Connor McCloskey of Portland, Oregon (Jennifer Reiss) 8 grandchildren Alexandria Hope McCloskey, Madison Ella McCloskey, Mason George McCloskey, Reese Virginia McCloskey, Riley Kay McCloskey, Julian Alan Reiss-McCloskey, Penelope Lotus Reiss-McCloskey, and Solomon Socrates Reiss-McCloskey; two sisters
Cynthia Karen Moore LeBre of Madison Indiana (Gregory) and Carita Gale Moore Curtis of Louisville, Kentucky (Jeffrey), 4 nephews, 2 nieces. Visitation will be held on Wednesday June 17, 2009 from 4-7 pm at Linnemann Funeral Home Erlanger KY. Service will be held on Thursday June 18, 2009 at 10am at Linnemann Funeral Homes Erlanger. Linnemann Funeral Homes has been entrusted with the arrangements.
