William “Bill” B. Monnig, M.D., 79, of Ryland Heights, KY, passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2022 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood, KY.  As expressed by many, Bill was a very generous and beloved friend who lived life to its fullest every day.  His ability to look at each day anew was a key to his happiness and that characteristic endeared him to many.  His giving spirit was very evident as he took care of patients as a urologist for more than 41 years.  He was Founder and CEO of The Urology Group in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky, a member of Ryland Lakes Country Club, an Alumnus of the University of Cincinnati and the University of Cincinnati Medical School and a member of Sigma Sigma Fraternity.  Bill also cherished many great times with his AMGIS ‘brothers’ and with family and friends at his annual July 4th parties.

Bill served in various officer positions with the American Medical Association, Kentucky Medical Association and the American Urology Association.  He was also a former President of the St. Elizabeth Medical Staff and board member of the St. Charles Community.  Bill had also participated in Leadership Kentucky and various other community and medical associations through the years.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Viola Monnig and his brothers, Ben and Dick Monnig.

He leaves behind his sons, Aaron (Jennifer) Monnig and Tom (Cassandra) Monnig; his long-time girlfriend, Kathy Robinson; and his siblings Carol (Jerry) Lowe, Mike (Joy Ritner) Monnig, and Dan (Luann) Monnig.

Bill also leaves behind his grandchildren, Lucy, William, and Liesl Monnig, and Sydney Grim; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private service will be held for family members on April 11, 2022, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and Shrine, Taylor Mill, KY. Bill’s friends and colleagues are invited to his celebration of life on April 23, 2022 from 2:00PM-5:00PM at Ryland Lakes Country Club Clubhouse.

In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions to the University of Cincinnati Foundation or the St. Charles Community, Covington, KY.

Kind

Tom and Aaron’s dad was always so kind to me. It left a lasting impression.

Resquiescat in Pace

Bill & I attended grade school together at Holy Family in Price Hill. My memories are of him being my chief competitor for grades. He was always the most competitive student & athlete. He also was a very conscientious server at Masses. We served together many times, but marriages were special. If we could get to the best man before our pastor (Msgr. Kuhn, at the time), they could be quite lucrative. Your place in any afterlife is guaranteed!

Condolences

To Dr Monnig’s family, I am so sorry to see that Dr Monnig has passed away. Although I have been retired from the hospital for some years,I will always think of him with a smile on his face, always positive and upbeat, and so kind to the nursing staff when he would round. He never seemed pressured or stressed. I can still see him at his retirement party wearing that blinking thing on his head and looking so happy! RIP Dr Monnig. I am sure you are continuing to spread joy in a new heavenly realm. Terri Burt RN

Mwmorial

Bill was one of the most generous and upbeat people I ever knew. I don’t recall ever observing him angry for any reason. He would just say “oh well” and move on! I try to make it my mission to emulate him but know I will fail! He will be truly missed.

Rest In Peace

My deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.
He was always a pleasure to work with, kind to the nurses, and had a warm inviting smile whenever he made rounds.
