Albert “Al” Kenkel, 91, of Edgewood KY, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, June 21, 2023. He was surrounded by his loving family at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood, KY.  Al was a Korean War veteran.  He was the founder and CEO of Tri-State Wholesale Building Supplies, Inc. until his retirement in 1998.  In 1999 he received a heart transplant which blessed him with another 24 years of life!

Al was a generous contributor to several Northern Kentucky charities such as ACUE (Alliance for Catholic Urban Education), Care Net, and Faith Pharmacy, to name a few.   The Al Kenkel Family Fund (through Horizon Community Funds) was created by Al to carry on the legacy of his contributions. He wanted his family to continue the spirit of charitable giving to the organizations he held dearly in his heart.

Al was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Rosemary Kenkel; his first wife, Margaret “Peggy” Kenkel (nee Berhiet); his 2nd wife, Esther Kenkel (nee Mormile); his brothers, Harry and Jack Kenkel; his sister, Helen Jason; his grandson, Chase Dudderar; and his great-grandson, Michaelangelo Wesdorp.

He leaves behind his loving children, Katherine (John) Caldon, Daniel (Ginny) Kenkel, Scot (Martha Lee) Kenkel, Diane (Jeff) Steffen, Connie “Bambi” Morgan, Robin (Jason) Welch, Angie (Chris) Dudderar, and Jennifer Kenkel; and his sister, Shirley Trauth.

Al also leaves behind his 25 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Visitation for Al will be on Monday, July 10, 2023 from 3:00PM-6:00PM at St. Pius X Church in Edgewood, KY, where he was a devoted parishioner for over 50 years.  Mass of Christian Burial will follow the visitation at 6:00PM. A reception will follow the mass in Milligan Hall (St. Pius X Church undercroft). He will be laid to rest at St. Mary Cemetery in Ft. Mitchell, KY.

Missing you

Dad, I miss you so much.

Met AL a long time ago

I met AL a long time ago when I worked part-time for American Awning & Window CO. I was just a gofer for American Awning, picking up materials ordered etc.
AL was a true gentleman. He was always helpful, friendly and never had a mean word to say. I am so sorry to see that AL Passed. My condolences to Kathy and the rest of the family.

Condolences to the Kenkel family.

Al Kenkel was an extraordinary man in so many ways. A man of deep faith who had a love of God and family. A giving man who for years supported many charitable and worthy causes. A compassionate man who sincerely cared about others…it was never about him. A humble man who was always appreciative for what he had in life. A businessman who was always respectful to his employees, customers and suppliers. A positive man who in spite of health issues over the years, including a heart transplant, he rarely wavered from his positive outlook on life. A man of high integrity who did it the right way…hard work, dedicated, fair, honest, etc…and never forgot his roots of where he came from! So admirable!!
Everyone who knew Al could add to this list of what made him such an extraordinary person and his undeniable legacy. May God bless the Kenkel family as we mourn the passing of this extraordinary man that so many family members and friends truly loved! He will be missed.

God Bless!
