Condolences

Nathaniel “Kayne” Finley, 18, of Ormond Beach, Fla. went to his forever home on the morning of November 24, 2017, just one year after learning he had DIPG-Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, a rare form of pediatric brain cancer.

Born to Curtis Lee and Kirsten Darlene Finley, Kayne grew up in Union, Ky., moving to Florida in 2013.  Swimming has always been part of Kayne’s life.  He was a member of USA Swimming through Northern Kentucky Clippers and Daytona Beach Speed swimming clubs. He swam for one year with Ryle High School and as an alumnae of Spruce Creek High School, Port Orange, Fla., Kayne swam and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity while beginning a national, public charity, called Cannonballs for Kayne Foundation, at the age of 17, with a mission to raise awareness and fund research for a DIPG cure, while also assisting families afflicted with this terrible disease and other forms of brain cancer.

Enrolled as a college freshman and Assistant Swimming Manager at Louisiana State University-Baton Rouge, Kayne was pursuing an Animal Sciences bachelor’s degree in the College of Agriculture with aspirations of becoming a DVM (doctor of veterinary medicine).

Kayne is preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Jacalynn Leigh Ransom, and paternal grandfather, Curtis Dean Finley. Kayne will be dearly missed by his devoted father, mother and brother, Nicholas “Keagan” Finley, along with maternal grandparents, William (Lila) Ransom, of Union, Ky. and paternal grandparents, Gary (Doris) Witt, Lisa Finley and aunts Amy Finley and Kara Andrews of London, Ky., aunts and uncles: William (Michele) Yazell, Marc (Ashley) Richardson and Eric (Lori) Phillips also of Union.

Visitation for Kayne will be held on Thursday, November 30, 3-6 pm, Memorial Service from 6-7 pm at Linnemann’s Funeral Homes, 1940 Burlington Pike, Burlington, Kentucky 41005. Reception immediately following Memorial Service at Christ’s Chapel, 3819 Turfway Road, Erlanger, Ky. A Celebration of Life service will be planned in Florida after the new year. Honor Kayne by wearing your purple and gold for LSU and gold and gray for pediatric brain cancer with splashes of light blue/turquoise to symbolize the water and his love for swimming.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to further Kayne’s mission: Cannonballs for Kayne Foundation, P.O. Box 1738, Ormond Beach, FL 32175 or online at: CannonballsForKayne.org.

Kanye

I miss you Kanye you in sbsk with Chris

Sorry for your loss

I am sorry for your loss. Condolences to you and your family. I look forward to the time when “death is swallowed up forever.” (1 Corinthians 15:54) When one of my family members passed away, I looked to my family for comfort, but most importantly, I received comfort from God’s Word the Bible. Jesus likened death to sleeping. This is encouraging because people can be awakened from sleep. The Bible gives us hope of a resurrection. In Revelation 21:4, God promises, “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” I look forward to that time and it helps me get by. I hope it is encouraging to you too. If you are interested in more encouragement from the scriptures, I invite you to go to www.JW.org.

Rest Easy Kanye

As a fellow tiger graduate, I followed Kanye’s story and became entranced by his bravery and kind soul through various adversities. While saddened, he did not “lose” his battle, he won and will be running free up there with the angels. Condolences to this brave boy’s family and friends, I know Kanye will be watching over all you.

To the family of Nathaniel Finley

It saddened me to hear about the death of Nathaniel. I offer my deepest condolences. I know Nathaniel will be dearly missed, it’s never easy to bury those closest to us. The distance enhances all the memories but please take comfort from this scripture at Isaiah 33:2-“… Show us favor. Our hope is in you. Become our arm every morning, Yes, our salvation in the time of distress.”

Love from Houston

Kayne was a bright, smart, loving person. I cannot imagine how you feel right now, but there is alot of love being pour out over you in this time of grief. May you feel God’s presence and know that He loves you and Kayne very much.

Love to you all

I got to «know» Kayne and the rest of you through Facebook. As a medical student, I just want to thank you for sharing your story with us, all around the world, especially the bad times. A lot of people don’t know what a situation like this takes from a family, not only after the passing of a loved one, but also during the time of disease. I would also like to offer my deepest condolences to Kayne’s family and friends. As a swimmer, I would like to send some thought to his teammates. Kayne seemed like a wonderful young man who did not deserve this at all, but who handled it like a true trooper. May he rest in peace. I don’t believe, but I’m sure he’s watching over you from somewhere.

Lots of thoughts and love to you all the way from Northern Norway.

Love and Strength

I have followed Kayne’s story since I first learned about it last December and I was always astounded by Kayne’s love, bravery, kindness, and caring for others. He will be greatly missed. He was a true hero loved by so many. Rest in peace and in God’s love. Continued prayers for your family.

He had so much strength and courage in him when doing these videos with Chris. Kayne, his family, and his friend’s will be in my thoughts. Much love ❤️

My heart breaks for you

My heart is broken for your family. He is a hero to so many.

A Touching Soul

Kayne’s bravery will never be forgotten or in vain. After following the story (thanks to Chris and SBSK) awareness of DIPG and Kayne’s pure heart were shared with the world in such a profound way. Now Kayne can be free and at peace at the right hand of our Father. Thank you for being humble and sharing your world with us.
