Zelma Jean Denham

April 25, 1934 to April 29, 2023

89 years & 4 days

Saturday, April 29th of 2023, Zelma Denham, AKA, “Zee,” passed from this life unto the next. Nearing her imminent departure, she entered Hospice care, and in less than two days, died peacefully in her home in Erlanger, Kentucky. Her loving grandson and caregiver, Andrew Denham, was by her side.

Firm in her faith in Jesus Christ, she held to His promise: “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die.” The comfort of Zelma’s friends and family is realized in Jesus’ promise for His children, that He “will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away…and they shall see His face!”

Zelma Jean Hicks was born in Crescent Springs, Kentucky, to Raymond and Geneva Hicks. She grew up in Ludlow, Kentucky, where she attended and graduated from Ludlow High School. There she met and was smitten by football star and aspiring boxer, Harry Denham. Zelma and Harry entered holy matrimony on September 6, 1952. Into this union two children were born, Scott and Tracy. Zelma served on the Erlanger Rescue squad and held a number of jobs until she found the work she loved as an administrative assistant for the Sanders Law firm, retiring at age 79!

Zelma was beautiful, funny, generous, and didn’t hesitate to speak her mind. She loved her husband and called him her ‘Rock,’ and he was! Though he passed first they are now happily reunited in Heaven!

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harry Denham, Harry’s siblings, brother Raymond Hicks, and some nieces and nephews. Left to cherish her memory is her brother Richard Hicks, son Scott (Patricia) Denham, daughter Tracy Denham, grandson Scott George (Cassidy Addison), granddaughter Rachel (Jordan) Lewis, grandson Jonathan Denham, grandson Matthew (Emily) Denham, grandson Andrew Denham, great grandchildren Jackson & Addilyn Lewis, and numerous extended relatives.

Zelma maintained deep and loving relationships with all her friends and family members, throughout her life and up to the very end. Those she leaves behind will have many memories to call upon.

A wonderful and beautiful lady

We worked with Zee for many years. She was a beautiful, talented, hard-working lady. She had a delightful sense of humor and lit up every room she entered. When she was in her 60s, Zee entered a “Hot Legs Contest” at The Conservatory, the high-end nightclub and restaurant that used to be in Covington. Zee won the contest— beating out all the 20-somethings for the best and hottest legs. Zee was always a great part of our law office team. She served as the firm’s hostess, greeting all new-comers and making them feel welcome and at ease. She loved to make filing runs to area court houses, where she caught up on all the latest goings-on. We always had a half dozen or more law students working for us; Zee was the den mother to all those kids and kept them involved and busy. We all loved Zelma Denham. . . and still do!
