William Renaker Townsend, better known as Bill, Billy or Doc, A Kentucky Colonel, of Crestview Hills, Kentucky, passed away on August 26th surrounded by his family. He arrived into this world on October 29th 1940, born to Mary Louise and Dr. William M. Townsend of Falmouth, Kentucky.

Doc was known for his consistency and his selflessness which made him not only a great friend and spouse, but also a great parent, grandfather and great grandfather that truly made a difference in peoples’ lives.

He was a great athlete in high school in Falmouth (Class of 1958), and that drive and competitive spirit served him well throughout his life. First at Centre College in Danville, then serving in the Army, and finishing out his studies at the University of Kentucky – where his love of sports became a lifelong passion for his Wildcats. His professional career took him in many different directions, but never got in the way of his first priority which was his family.

Doc is survived by his wife of 32 years, Laura; his daughter Patricia; two sons; Bob (Karen) and Dave (Lauren); three stepsons, Kelley (Esther) and Brayden McIntyre (Heather) and Gregg Dennison (Sam); four grandchildren, Jennifer Osbourne, Zachary Bruin, Katrina (Dean Manes) and Leslie Townsend (Randy Hunt); nine step-grandchildren, Kiley Monfils, Molly, Alex, Luke, Gabe, Benjamin and Ian William Dennison, of Falmouth, as well as Duncan and Claire McIntyre; great grandchildren Lillian, Xavier, Jaislyn and William, and great grandson Remington Hunt.

He was a quiet man with a great wit, and if you took the time to get to know him, you’d never forget him. He will be greatly missed, but we are all glad that he is finally resting in peace after fighting his battle with Lewy Body Dementia.

Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Friday, September 2, 2022, at Linnemann Funeral Home, 30 Commonwealth Avenue, Erlanger, KY, with visitation from 11-1 pm preceding the service.  Interment will take place in the Highland Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell.

Peace and Prayers

Dear Bob and family. So sorry to hear of your loss. He was a nice man and we are glad to have known him when you and Chuck were in Hi School. We have good memories of him at your wedding and the ski trips he took you two on. Thank heaven for good memories. Love, Jim and Mary Ann.
