My Doctor and More Importantly, My Friend

May 27th and just a short while ago I learned of Steve’s passing. Words cannot convey the grief and downright shock I’m in now. Steve and I went to high school together at Simon Kenton way back in the 1970’s. He was one year ahead of me at SK, we played in the concert and marching bands together. I’ve been one of Steve’s patients for about 30 years. Not only did I value our doctor/patient relationship I valued what bond we shared from our high school years. We talked much about music and shows we performed but we almost always talked about having faith and trusting God. Steve was a Godly man and it really showed. I tell you I cannot believe it. I underwent back surgery on April 30 and just discharged two days ago. Sadly I was unaware but most certainly would have been at his services. As soon as I’m able to drive I will be visiting Steve’s place of rest and saying my own personal good-bye. My thoughts and prayers to Dr. Steve’s immediate and extended families. Northern Kentucky lost a great doctor and a great man. Rest In Peace Steve. You will never be forgotten.

Loss of great man

I have known Steve since he was in college and served as his minister for 3 years. He is one of the finest persons I have ever known and I say that without any exaggeration. He was great son, husband, father and doctor. He can from a great family and he carried on that tradition very well. Everyone who met him, loved him. He was great and will be greatly missed.
The whole Sanders’ family thanks you for being such a wonderful person.

Great Doctor and a better man

Steve was my doctor and friend for over 30 years. He was always caring, gentle and understanding. When I tested positive for COVID in December he called me every day for a week to check on me. When I talked to him last Saturday I had no idea it would be our last conversation. He was a great friend and I will miss him terribly. There will never be another Dr Steve. Prayers for Kim and the kids. Until we meet again Steve.

My Physician & Friend

The world lost a great person. Dr. Steve was my physician from 2001-2019. The only reason I changed physicians was I moved 50 minutes away. Steve was more than my doctor. He was a mentor and a really good friend. He loved helping people and caring for them both physically and spiritually. He also loved all his children. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that Steve is in heaven today and I am happy for him. At the same time I miss my friend. The friend I never got to say goodbye to. My family will be praying for his family for strength, peace, and happiness in this very difficult time. I miss you Doc.

I lived and worked in Grant County for the first part of my career. Although I only met Steve a few times, I was always impressed with the high regard patients, staff, and other community members had for him. Prayers for Steve and his family.

Praying for this dear family. Dr. Sternburg was my primary care physician since I was born. He showed so much grace and kindness when caring for his patients. He was a Christian man and always made that known, I know God has welcomed him home and has said well done mg good and faithful one.

Such a great person

I called on Dr. Sternberg as a representative. He was always so kind and respectful. He asked tough questions and was always thoughtful of his patients. Most representatives will remember and joke about how he teased us regarding the “law of inverse proportion.” He spoke of his family on every interaction I had with him. He was very proud of his kids. He will be missed by so many.

What agreat Man

I knew Steve from his childhood .His brother John is my oldest and best friend. So I had many interactions with Steve while growing up.What a great child but that was to be expected because the whole family was was wonderful.I knew Steve would go on to do good because that was his nature. So he ended up serving others. What a great legacy. He was smart, funny and humble. All of us that came into contact with him can attest to that. Steve, you are in my thoughts always and may the Lord aid comfort to those that need it.He is probably fixing angel’s wings.

My deepest Sympathy

Today is May 21st and I was sitting in my car writing a thank you letter to Dr. Sternberg to drop by the office, when my brother sent me the bad news. I’m 45 and Dr. Sternberg took care of me since I was little down in Dry Ridge , he then went on to take care of my son Jeremy Ball (27) and Kelsey Ball (19) since the day they were born. I’m in tears … I can even put it into words what a honor it was to have him not only as my doctor but all of my foster children’s doctor and my entire family. My deepest sympathy goes out to his wife and children who he always talk so highly of… I can not thank him enough for taking such good care of me and my children. My daughter and I had back to back appointments a few weeks ago… It breaks my heart I didn’t know he wasn’t doing well… From: Carisa Ball and family

Thank you Doc

I saw Dr. Steve every six months for I don’t know how many years. He never lectured me about my smoking and always encouraged me to give it up. I quit this past January and was excited to tell him. To his family, he mattered to me. Thank you for sharing him with the me, my wife, and the community.

My Doctor

This felt like a family member has passed, He has been my doctor for 20+ years as well as my children’s doctor. You sure will be missed, such a wonderful man.

Dr. Sternberg

Dr. Sternberg was a very kind man. He always treated us like we were family, and would always tell us a joke. He wanted better for you even after your visit was over. He had a great way of making connections with you on a personal level, he genuinely cared about everyone. Dr. Sternberg was a person you only get to meet once in a lifetime, his character and ethics is hard to find in people. He will truly be missed.

A true gentleman and physician

Dr. Sterneberg was one of the best. He was a kind, Christian individual who gave of his time, his talent and his compassion. It has been a honor to have known him and we grieve his passing. Our thought and prayers go out to each family member. May your memories last you a lifetime. You were honored to have him in your family.

Such a special person.

Dr Sternberg was the best of the best. I loved him as my doctor. He found out in October of 2020 that I had heart problems, he sent me to see Dr Strickmeyer, I ended up with a triple by pass . He called to check on me the day I came home from the hospital and I missed his call, he then called my husband at his cell number to check on me. I saw him in December and he told me it was a close call and God had given me a second chance. He probably spent 45 minutes with me that day talking to me and explaining what to expect as I was still recovering. He was the kindest, most caring doctor I have ever met. My husband just saw him in April and he once again ask about me. We never had any idea he was sick. I am so very sorry and I will be praying for his family. I cant even imagine what they must be feeling. He was a good man. Kind. loving, caring and such a gentle soul. I will always miss him. My heart just breaks for everyone. Please know how much my husband and I loved him.

Such a great man of God!

I am so sorry for this families loss and have been praying for you all. I just had an appointment in the middle of April and Dr. Sternberg always talked about God to me. I had no idea he was sick when he seen me a few weeks back, he took care of my mom and dad and also a baby we just adopted. I am really going to miss him….

Dr Sterneberg was a favorite with the hospital nurses at St Elizabeth Grant. He always had a kind word for us and valued our opinions. His patients were always happy to see him and talk to him. Before electronic charting, he would personalize his narrative for each patient. We are truly sorry for the loss of Dr Sterneberg and his family is in our prayers.

Dr Sterneberg

Compassionate and Giving

Dr. Sterneberg was an amazing man, he had been my doctor since marching band days when he took time to spend with us at band camp ensuring we were safe and healthy. He has been compassionate and always interested in my entire family, he’s been a provider to my grandparents, parents, sibling, children and husband. In hard times he would reference the Bible and make suggestions which really helped change the course of my life these last few years. I am forever grateful for him being a part of my life these last 25 years. I pray for peace and comfort for his family during the coming days. Thank you for sharing him with us for so many years.

Dr Steve

Wonderful dr, he’s been my dr for 35 years now. Even when I moved to Columbus I kept him as my family dr. My son loved him. He will definitely be missed by many. My heart hurts for his family. Heaven gained one of the best drs.

Dr. Steve

Dr. Steve was not only a doctor for our family put a fellow church member for many years, and friend. We spent many hours together with each other’s children many Saturdays working and watching the kids at the marching band competitions. He was a tireless supporter of his family as well as for his patients and the communities he served. He will be greatly missed of course but no one would want to take him away from what he is enjoying with his Savior now. Until we meet again Dr. Steve. God bless his family and those who he has touched.

Great Doctor and a great man

Dr Steve was my Doctor for the last 20 years. Never have I been to a Doctor that was as caring and thorough. Actually enjoyed my office visits as Doc would always listen to my concerns and made time to discuss and explain any issues I was having. My condolences to his family and always know just how many peoples lives he touched. A great man that will be truly missed by all. Rest in peace Doc.

My condolences

My lifelong doctor, I didnt have to see him very often. He was always the friendliest man when I did see him. My favorite memory, I had been feeling sick for several days. I went to see him and he ran some test. I will never forget the big smile he had walking in the room, to tell me that I was going to be a mom. My little boy is getting ready to turn nine. He was the most kind hearted human and will be greatly missed. My condolences to the family.

Not just a doctor

Dr. Sterneberg treated me as a young child. When he and Dr. Melton first opened the “little”practice in Dry Ridge. Then as the practice grew, I grew up. I got married, and had children and he treated them. Then I had grandchildren, and he treated them also. But not just medically. He took time to really sit and talk to us, to explain things. And to talk to the kids in a way they understood. That makes a difference. When my parents passed, I will never forget the empathy he showed, and how he helped me through the loss. He was a great doctor, and an even better man. I am truly sorry for your loss.

To the family, friends, and colleagues

I first met Dr. Sternberg years ago when I was working in ICU at Booth Hospital in Florence. His bedside manner was outstanding- he listened, knew his patients’ names and their families – in a time where the patient load of the family doctor was beginning to make that type of relationship difficult to maintain, he managed to do so. An outstanding physician, he was the family doctor for so many in my family — he will be greatly missed by us and so many others. Our hearts are with you.

Best everything of all time!

Dr. Steve, he is the first pcp doctor that I remember, our band doctor, and the doctor I compare all other doctors too. I will never forget him. My family wishes we were able to travel to pay our respects to him and your family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of sorrow. May the lord do everything he can to ease your pain.

To the family

So sorry to hear about the passing of a great doctor. Only knew him a few years and he was the only doctor my family saw. He is with our Lord now, free from all sickness. I will be praying for you all. May God’s peace be with you. The Pickett-Gilbert Family

Dr. Sternberg

To the Family: Dr. Sternberg was the nicest Doctor and person. I saw him just about 4 or 5 weeks before I got the letter that he would probably not return. I didn’t even know he was sick. He will truly be missed by his patients.
