Sophia Jean (mom mom) Brinegar, 89 years young, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2022.

She was born June 22, 1932 to Bluford and Ollie Mae (Dozier) Brinegar in Hamilton, Ohio. She was proceeded in death by her parents and 12 siblings.

To meet her was to love her. She was a spunky ball of energy who would never take a seat when it was offered to her. She was born during the depression and worked hard all her life. She preferred a hammer and nails to pots and pans. She loved to mow the grass and did it faithfully until she was 85-years-old. She whistled, puzzled and crafted. She was a member of the Boone County Homemakers for 35 years. She loved to crochet and could make a craft out of anything, even painting rocks with her grandchildren. She especially enjoyed making blankets out of plastic grocery bags for the homeless. She loved the Boone County Fair and entered many ribbon winning crafts over the years. She was a gifted four-leaf clover hunter and lover of classic country music. She always prayed for our soldiers.

Sophia enjoyed driving a school bus for many years for Boone County Schools safely crossing the Woolper Creek bridge countless times. The kids she drove talked about her fondly for the rest of her life.

She deeply loved and was proud of her family. A favorite thing of hers to do at family gatherings was to take pictures with her ‘five generations of family’. Later in life she was blessed with a second family from the crowd at Washington Square Café whom she shared many, many good times.

Sophia is survived by her three children Karen (Ronnie) Atha, Joyce McNeely and Dennie (Robin) McNeely; 10 grandchildren; Sonia Lawson, Tony Epperson, Duane (Laura) Epperson, Amy (Kris) Conner, Deanna (Mike) Dragan, Dawn (Brad) Denham, Ryan McNeely (Christopher Feige), April (Kyle) Fuller, Wayne (Melissa) Atha, Tonya (Jack) Fedders; 19 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

,

You’ll always be mom mom to me…

I will miss your beautiful smile and all the goodness you were in the world. You’ll always be mom mom to me. All we had to do was say “mom mom” and other bands, artists that came through knew who that was. I remember you always would say when you had to leave, “I’d better get going, my little dog is probably crossing his legs right now”. So many wonderful memories, I’ll never forget, and I’ll still think of you often, hoping there are fields that need mowing in Heaven. Pam (Ky Myle)

Condolences

I am sorry to hear of Ms. Sophia’s passing. She was my neighbor and we used to sit on her patio and talk all the time. She had great stories and loved her family. She will be missed.
