Roby Lee Vest Taw was born on January 23rd, 1962, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She died in her home in Florence, Kentucky on September 29th, 2022, secondary to an aggressive and rare cancer originating in the parotid gland. She was accompanied by those she loved when she died.

Roby grew up in Clemmons, North Carolina as the youngest of five children of Jack Douglas Vest (1926 – 1972) and Ellen Roberta Snapp Vest (1926 – 2019). (Roby’s mother also went by Roby.) Roby received her bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and her Master’s of Social Work through Indiana University. As a young woman, Roby was called to be a Christian missionary in East Asia where she served for 26 years. She is survived by her two sons Matthew (Hannah) Taw and Zachary Taw. She is also survived by her four siblings, Nancy, Holly, Debbie, and Rock (Chrystina) Vest, and a multitude of dear nieces and nephews. Roby also leaves a host of other beloved family and friends behind.

Roby had an undeniable warmth and charm, which endeared her to many. She loved learning, painting, reading, and sharing life with others. She ministered to people of diverse ages and cultures. Her wisdom, counsel, and deep understanding of people allowed her to touch many lives on a profound level. Walking through immense pain leading up to her death, it was always Roby’s desire to die in a way that pointed others to the surpassing worth of having a relationship with Jesus over anything this world has to offer.

Services celebrating the life of Roby will be held on October 15th, 2022 at Every Nation Church, 3722 Clifton Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45220 at 3:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, Roby requested donations be made to Life Forward, Pregnancy Care of Cincinnati where she worked as Development Director for the last 2 years. You may click on the following link to donate: Life Forward

Dear Roby,

Your death hadn’t really hit me until I had to tell Benaiah (my 4 year old) that our sweet Roby was gone. He was sad and upset for a while, but I think it would make you smile to know that it led to a conversation about how it is sad for us, but we can be happy for you because you’re with Jesus. It led to more questions about how he can be with Jesus when he dies, and as a result, he prayed that Jesus would be in charge of his life. ❤️ We’ll miss you.

Many Thanks

I want to express thanks for the gift of knowing Roby. I am honored that she included me in her journal. She loved her children and outstanding gift.
