Raymond Jacob Hoffman loved to tell a story, oftentimes the same story over and over.  He would proudly regale anyone who would listen about his winning the state golf high school championship as a senior at St. Henry High School in 1945.

“The first from Elsmere to ever win a state championship, according to his brother Bob Hoffman,” he would tell repeatedly.  Raymond was born in Covington, KY on August 7, 1927; but was proud to tell all that he was from Elsmere where he grew up with his beloved siblings Robert, Ginny, and Evie.

He loved the game of golf and would always find a way to weave into the conversation that he learned the game as a caddie at Summit Hills Country Club at age 12, and went on to be the Caddie Master.

He joined the Merchant Marines right out of high school and went on to serve as a Sergeant in the Army, where most of the action he faced was on the enlisted men’s golf course at Fort Bragg.

He was a proud union man as an owner-operator of Tri-State Sheet Metal Erecting Company and member of the Sheet Metal Union Local 24 where he paid union dues for over 74 years.

He loved having a small wager with friends and family on just about anything but usually the ponies, a football or basketball game, and he would always bet you a dollar that “you made a bad bet”.

On July 1, 2023 Raymond passed peacefully at age 95 in Covington Kentucky, next to his beloved Twin Oaks Golf Course at Rosedale Green.

Ray is survived by his daughters Ruth (Jeff) Eger of Edgewood and Carol (Richard) Middleton of Erlanger.  4 grandchildren; Ryan (Brittany) Eger, Lindsey (Andy) Armstrong, Kelsey (Sean) Flannery, and Kyle Middleton; also survived by 6 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Ashcraft Hoffman; his siblings, Robert Hoffman, Virginia Steuber, and Evelyn Zembrodt; and his Grandson, Bradley Middleton.

Per his wishes, there will be no service. He will be buried next to his wife and grandson in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Hi Carol and Ruth. What wonderful memories of you both and your parents. I miss those times. I have fond memories of your mother being so kind. The most impressive memory of your father was that I would my bike through your side yard and hear your father singing in a loud baritone what ever sing fancied him. What a great happy man and loving family. Wish those days were back!
