Phillip W. Watkins
Phillip “Phil” Watkins, born August 17, 1940 passed away peacefully April 18, 2023 with family by his side after a courageous 10-year battle with dementia.
He grew up in Ludlow, KY and graduated from Ludlow High School in 1959. Phil spent two years in the Navy reserves before meeting the love of his life Donna Jobert Watkins. It was love at first sight for him. His perseverance and handsome looks paid off much more than he could have ever imagined. Donna, wife of 54 years, took the vowel of “until death do us part” with passion. Donna took on the primary caregiver role with unbelievable dedication and love. He knew she was there until the very end!
Phil had many interests and passions. His keen eye for treasures both big and small kept him searching no matter where his travels took him. While at live sporting events or watching on television the referees knew he was around. He never let a bad call go unchallenged. Weekly card games and dinner with family members kept them busy.
When it came to his family Phil worked very hard to ensure his children were provided with everything they needed to succeed. Always accepting and just wanting a hug. The family spent many years traveling often to Florida visiting relatives.
Phil is survived by his wife, Donna; son, Kelly (Julie) Watkins; daughter, Julie Watkins. He was the dedicated grandfather (Poppa) to Justin, Tatum, Zoë and Alexis (father and family friend Eric Lee) and many family members. Phil was preceded in death by his parents and both brother and sister.
We would like to extend thanks to the incredible staff at St. Elizabeth Hospice for caring so deeply for Phil in the final days of his life.
He is at peace.
Funeral services will be held Saturday April 29, 2023 at St. Barbara Church. https://www.stbarbaraky.org Visitation will be from 9am-10am with a Mass following at 10am.
