Norman Clinton Gavigan

Obituary
Condolences

Norman Clinton Gavigan, age 80, of Laurel Maryland passed away at his home in Edgewood, Kentucky on December 6th, 2022. Norman was surrounded by family and loved ones who will continue to honor his memory and legacy by keeping his stories alive.

Norman was born July 30th, 1942, in Laurel Maryland to Walter and Ruth Gavigan. Norman graduated from Glenelg High School in 1960 where he remained in close contact with many of his childhood friends and looked forward to annual class reunions. Norman went on to work for the University of Maryland Police Department and National Linen Services where he retired. Norman was fortunate to have the opportunity to spend many years living with and taking care of his elderly parents until they passed away. Since much of Norman’s life was spent thinking about and caring for others, it’s no surprise that his final years were spent living with and being cared for by his devoted daughter Jean and son-in-law Gil, where he always felt the most loved.

He adored his great grandchildren and lived for spending time with his daughter and granddaughters (“the girls”). Despite living hundreds of miles away for most of their lives he made sure to maintain a close and loving relationship with each one of the girls throughout their lives. He would look forward to annual road trips to new cities to meet up with the girls during holidays. Norman could be found taking his buddy Tank (English Bulldog Grandson) on afternoon rides in his truck or sending random selfies while trying to master Snapchat. He was a patient and caring man who loved the opportunity to hand out some advice on life and was known for roping friends and family into his countless random projects.

Norman was a man of simple pleasures – a cheeseburger from McDonald’s, a trip to Costco with his daughter, phone calls checking in with his granddaughters, cardboard sword fights with his oldest great grandson, watching his great granddaughter cheer and working on endless amounts of arts and crafts, and afternoon snacks and cuddles with his youngest great grandson.

Norman is survived by his daughter Jean Gavigan Vogt (Gilbert), of Edgewood Kentucky; two granddaughters Jordan Vogt and Megan Vogt Karle (Andrew) of Ft. Mitchell Kentucky; three great grandchildren Kaden Vogt, Emerson Karle, Everett Karle; and his sister Martha “Sue” Gavigan Webster (Larry). He was preceded in death by his parents Walter Vernon Gavigan and Ruth Elizabeth Whitehead Gavigan and brothers Walter “Bob” Vernon Gavigan Jr. and William “Bill” Harris Gavigan.
