Mary “Lee” Macklin September 7, 1926 to November 26, 2023 Mary Elizabeth Macklin, known to her loved ones as Lee, died peacefully Nov 26, 2023 at St Elizabeth Hospital with two of her daughters by her side. She was born September 7, 1926 in Covington, Kentucky. Her parents were Carolyn and Stanley Suchanek. Lee is survived by her four children, Nancy, Dee, Janis and Fred (Tad) along with six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister, JoAnn Arlinghaus. Lee was preceded in death by Fred, her husband of 57 years, who passed in 2006. Lee was very active in a number of Northern Kentucky charitable organizations over the years. She was active in the school PTA while raising their four children in Erlanger, KY. Lee and Fred started “Family Camping Center” in 1966 where they sold and serviced travel trailers and motor homes. Together, they built it into one of the largest businesses of its kind in Greater Cincinnati. Lee worked at the business until it sold in 1984. In retirement, Lee and Fred enjoyed traveling and camping; often alternating visits to their son and daughter in the Pacific Northwest and then basking in the warmth of the Florida Keys in winter months. Lee loved watching football and was a huge Cincinnati Bengals fan. (Family and friends knew to check the Bengal’s game schedule before calling and checking in with her.) She also loved reading, word puzzles, fishing in the Florida Keys, evening boat rides through the canals of the Keys, coconut shrimp, afternoon lattes and her family. She passed on a strong work ethic, a love of books and learning. She always took an interest in others and was warm and welcoming to anyone who visited. She was loved and will be missed.
