Lena “Jo” Long, of Burlington, Kentucky, passed away at the age of 90, on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. Lena, better known as “Jo” or “Hugger Jo”, was a waitress and bartender for 60 years. Over her long career she worked at many well known establishments, the Newport Syndicate being the last. Her job provided her the opportunity to meet and befriend many famous sport figures and celebrities. Her most cherished were members of the Cincinnati Reds “Big Red Machine”. Jo loved to travel as she traveled many places throughout the world. Some of her favorite places were Ireland, Egypt and Israel. Once during one of her many times of traveling she successfully climbed Machu Picchu Mountain in Peru. She was a longtime member of New Thought Unity Center in Cincinnati, OH. Jo was born to the late Raymond and Cora Belle (nee: Miller) Rison. She was preceded in death by her husbands, MC Perry, Eddie Phillips and Tom Long, daughter, Linda Dean and siblings, Ernie, Bill, Virgil, Ina and Katherine “Kitten”. Jo is survived by her loving daughters, Barbara Aldridge, Janet (Kenneth) Schoultz, Karin (Ray Rice) Arhman, son, Michael (Betty) Phillips and step daughters, Tina (Jerry) Reed and Joyce Long, step son, Tim Long. She also leaves behind 24 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and dear friends, Rick and Sarah Perry. A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2020 from 1:00pm to 2:00pm at the New Thought Unity Center, 1401 E. McMillan, Cincinnati, OH 45206. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to New Thought Unity Center, located at 1401 E. McMillan, Cincinnati, OH 45206 or Boonespring Care Center, 10250 US 42, Union, KY 41091.

I know Jo thru the Perry’s. She never failed to make me happy.. She was a courageous woman. Peace to your family.
