Jimmie Louis Guthrie

Jimmie (Jim) Louis Guthrie, age 88, of Florence, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2024 in Sarasota, Florida.  He was born in Albany, Kentucky, in 1936 to Cyrus and Wilma Guthrie.  After studying engineering in college, he proudly served in the Army before working 32 years for Delta Airlines.  Jim then owned and operated a freight delivery business for Home Interiors and Gifts for 15 years.  He was known as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, and church member.  He served as a deacon at Burlington Baptist Church and enjoyed helping with the youth group for years.  He was also proud to be a Mason. Jim was also known for his lifelong love of flying and airplanes and piloted his own planes for years.  He met the love of his life, Geneva (Genny) Stump Guthrie, in 1961, and they married in 1963.  They celebrated 60 years of happy marriage last October.

He is predeceased by his parents, Cyrus and Wilma Guthrie, sister Faye Lovelace, and brother Thomas Guthrie.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife Genny, and their 3 children, Timothy (Anne) Guthrie, Vickie (Arnel) Corpuz, and Angela (Alan) Katt, 7 grandchildren: Bryan (Jane) and Abigail Corpuz, and Peter, Noah, Grace, Andrew, and Ruth Guthrie, 5 step-grandchildren Nate (Alisha) Katt, Emily (Andy) Zoller, Evan (Annie) Katt, Olivia (Greg) Mounce, and Taylor (Megan) Katt, 13 step great-grandchildren, his brothers Cyrus Vance (Eva) Guthrie and Steve (Barbara) Guthrie, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation will be held at Burlington Baptist Church on Sunday, February 25, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and the funeral service will be begin at 5:00 p.m.  Graveside commitment service will be held on Monday, February 26, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Burlington Cemetery.  Memorials may be given to Burlington Baptist Church.
