Elinor J. Menez (nee Kyle), age 86, of Ft. Mitchell, KY, formally of Arlington, MA, passed away Thursday, December 11, 2014 in the comfort of her son’s home.

Born in Mishawaka, IN, she attended St. Joseph, St. Monica and lastly Misawaka High School from which she graduated in the Class of 1946. In 1946 she married her husband of 58 years and they moved from Indiana to Massachusetts first to Somerville and then to Arlington where she lived in the same house for 60 years prior to her move to Kentucky in late 2013.

She retired in 1994 from the U.S. Department of Transportation in Boston after 21 years of service, the last several years as a cost-price analyst. Before joining the Transportation Department, she worked 11 years at the AMW Corp. in Arlington, MA.

She was an avid reader, loved classical music and theater, and played the piano throughout her life. She enjoyed spending time in Martha’s Vineyard and visiting with her granddaughters, daughter, son, and a few close girlfriends.

She was a humanitarian and passionate about social justice and animal welfare and supported certain causes such as St. Joseph Indian School, Kids Wish Network, Soaring Eagle, St. Labre Indian School, Cincinnati Educational Television, Kentucky Educational Television, Food for the Poor, and the Northern Kentucky ALS Association (Lou Gehrig’s disease). For over twelve years she also sponsored several children through Children International.

She leaves one daughter, Charmain Menez and a son Joseph Menez, two granddaughters, Katherine Menez and Elizabeth Christ, and son-in-law Brian Christ. Her husband, Manuel, predeceased her in 2004, her daughter-in-law, Sarah Menez, in 2013 and her sister, Irene Cline, earlier in 2014.

At her request, there will be no funeral. The memorial service will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Internment will be at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Arlington, MA alongside her husband. In celebration of her life, and in lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the Lexington Symphony, P.O. Box 194, Lexington, MA 02420.
