Delbert “Del” Daniel Deatherage, of Edgewood, KY passed away after a brief illness at the age of 91 years on March 9, 2022. Del was born on August 27, 1930 in Grants Lick, Kentucky to the late Emil and Leona Deatherage. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 62 years: Genie Deatherage, and brothers: Hobart and Bernard “Bernie” Deatherage. Del is survived by his sons: Steven (Kathleen) Deatherage and David (Patty) Deatherage, 5 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Del attended Lloyd High School where he graduated in 1950, served as Senior Class President, and organized all the 1950 Class Reunions. Following school, he proudly served in the United States Air Force stationed in Tokyo during the Korean War. Afterwards Del worked for Western Electric for 42 years. Upon retirement, he liked to keep busy and volunteered with Hope House Ministries for 16 years, was the Head Usher at Florence Baptist Church, and started the “Golden Coral Family” which met to eat lunch together growing to more than 200 members by 2019. Del did extensive research on the Deatherage Family Tree dating back to England in 1600. Del took a six-year sabbatical from his volunteer work with the Hope House Ministry to care for his beloved wife Genie in her final years. Del was an avid roller coaster enthusiast at Kings Island, and he took every chance he had to go ride, even through his later years. Since COVID, he bought an electric wheelchair to tour the neighborhood and greater the greater Edgewood area. But Del always loved planning the annual family reunion to gather his extended family and cherishing every minute with them.

Will be missed

Delbert was my dad Charles Deatherage’s cousin. I met him several times. Delbert came to my home on several occasions in recent years. He shared his search of family history with me. He will be missed. My dad loved when they would met and talk about old times. I also enjoyed his company.

Delbert

Sorry to hear of Dels passing. He founded the western electric breakfast, contacting the retires and kept attendance of all. These were great times recalling our many years of work He will be missed. Bill McConnell

Edgewood lost a sweet soul

Our 12 Trees Neighborhood has lost a sweet, kind, gentle, happy, positive man! Delbert was one of the first “greeters” to welcome me to Arbor Drive. I will miss seeing that electric wheelchair strolling the roads of our community. Prayers for his family as their hearts must be heavy.

So sorry

Steve David and family, I am so sorry to hear that your Dad has passed. He came to see me one day and we had a nice chat. I will keep him and your Mom in my prayers.
