Merle “Max” Maxwell Akins, 86, of Florence, KY, passed away on July 21, 2017 at Emerald Trace on Turkeyfoot Road. Max, who was a good neighbor, had a passion for cars and motorcycles, and was also a longtime member of the First Church of Christ in Burlington. Max was a member of the Elsmere VFW and served in the US Army Signal Corp during the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Katie Alice Akins. Max is survived by his children, Barry (Mary) Akins, Michael (Karolyn) Akins, Patrick (Gina) Akins, and Veronica (Mark) Hicks. He also leaves behind his 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will take place at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Retirement Housing Foundation 911 N Studebaker Rd.
